From early on hip- hop was a hobby but took a backseat for his love of basketball, it enabled him to travel out of the Ohio Valley and see what else the world offers. But with a successful college career on the court what's the next step? A new challenge emerges: turning his hobby into his passion.

Sometimes looks can deceive you at first glance of Ohio's own Slick Watts. The quiet and humble looking Watts from Columbus, Ferry region of Ohio at first glance does not look like the Raw pressure cooker he really is, but when the Mic is on and booth door closes its a very different story. You then see why Slick Watts went on to win Best Midwest Artist at the Underground Music Awards (NYC) in 2009 and his music is a frequent on Websites. We take a few minutes inside Slicks crazy schedule to see what Slick is up too why he should be on everyone's radar.

From a Rock & Roll standpoint, you can consider the state of Ohio as the epicenter of music, based on the fact of the Rock & Roll Hall Fame being located in Cleveland. But if you want to shift your focus primarily on Hip-Hop, the outcome probably won’t be the same; and that’s where newcomer, Slick Watts comes into play.

A native of the ‘Buckeye State,’ the lyricist has been making his rounds on the mixtape circuit with his project, 25 To Life, which is hosted by Mick Boogie.

Besides accomplishing that feat, he’s also been able to secure endorsement deals with companies such as Stall & Dean/Rucker Apparel, along with Kashi Kicks, (not bad work for someone who’s considered to be an “up-and-comer”).

So as he continues to move up the ranks, and separates himself from a pack of millions, the artist with an extensive resume that reads like that of a veteran, sits down with MIO to talk about the beginning all the way up to his present status…

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Martins Ferry's own Slick Watts was named Best Midwest Artist at the 7th Annual Underground Music Awards at the B.B. King Theater in New York last month.

Described as the "biggest and brightest national awards show for the indie artist" as well as the "Grammy's of the Underground," the Underground Music Awards are noted for celebrating the achievements and culture of independent Hip-Hop, R&B, gospel, and reggae music and fashion...

More than 2,000 free tickets were handed out Wednesday for the first production to be held at the Capitol Theatre in three years. The Sept. 23 variety-type program, featuring local performers, is being billed as "A New Beginning - Re-Opening A Treasure." Denny Magruder, executive director of WesBanco Arena and the Capitol Theatre, said organizers hope to turn the re-opening into a community activity. "It's a nostalgic event to open an historic venue," Magruder said. He said tickets are free and most of the entertainers are donating their time to help the theatre be returned to the public.

Ohio's own Slick Watts recently received the UMA's Midwest Artist of The Year award at B.B. King Theater in New York. Slick Watts is deffinitley paving his way in the game. To follow up claiming Midwest artist of the year, he'll be releasing two projects later this year, one with Cleveland's own DJ, Mick Boogie.

Nicky, and Lyric513 for their winning slots on the Tour.

He's got a new sponsorship with Stall and Dean and just absolutely dropped jaws at the New Music Seminar in Cleveland. He can without a doubt be the next Kid Cudi- an Ohio guy who makes it out without having a traditional "Ohio" sound. He's a great person too- surrounded by a great team. I'm very proud of him!
